These are Pro-Active Recommendations and Activities that Black Economics would like to take ahead following the ACES Conference of 2018.

Black Economic Conferences are not just a talking shops. Actions are being put in place - and we had the wealth of talent in the people present at the event to make these things happen.

Let us join together and widen our reach,

We have been implementing some of these recommendations since the last conference. There is more to be implemented going forward.

CONFERENCE 2018 - R E C O M M E N D A T I O N S

  1. MENTOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Steer and look after a young person. EACH ONE TEACH ONE. An Adult should take one youth - and Mentor them. Time period can be short term, or preferably long term. Educate them about life and prospects. Youth can be helped to be entrepreneurial,

Signpost to education, Steer away from early pregnancy and bad relationships.

Provide a wider experience in life. Spend time with the youth and maybe the parent(s).

2. BETTING SHOP OUTREACH

Comprise a team of volunteers to go to Betting Shops and talk to the black men.  See if they can spend that time with family instead.  Give a new lifeline, perhaps a new hobby. For the unemployed, connect with jobs, or help start a business.

3. ABSENT FATHERS

Work with absent Fathers to reconnect with their children. It is not too late for most. The lives of some youths can be positively affected by this. If there is no father connection, commandeer an army of father figures.

4. ART

There is an amazing amount of talented Black Artists out there.  Black families should be educated about art and its potential. White Art investors are curious, but not necessarily buying in huge droves YET.   Encourage research. Encourage the use of Art for motivation, therapy, a new direction and earnings.  Encourage Art Lessons, and learning about the Business of Art.  Encourage investing in Art.

5. HAIR AND BEAUTY

Black Families should also earn well from the lucrative Black Hair and Beauty Industry. Currently it is Asian Business owners who are profiting in this area. They control 95% of the supply industry. How can we compete. Connect with Black owned sources of products. Provide a list of black owners in this area.

6. HEALTH

Connect with Alfred Samuels re Health and Prostrate Cancer.  Spread his message. Publicise his 5 point check for preventative Cancer, and provide information about his ground-breaking recovery procedure.

7. BUSINESS ANALYSIS AND FUNDING

Provide signposting for funding for black-owned businesses.  Funding for many has been elusive or near impossible.

8. COACHING

Connect with coaches who can help to accelerate the income growth of Black-owned businesses where the potential is visible but not yet fully realised. Coaches can be from any nationality.

9. ACQUIRE CO-OPERATIVE SHOP PREMISES

Connect with like-minded people who want to put together a Co-operative for a shop. Similar to Hub and Culture. Sell products made by us in the UK and beyond. Source products from Africa and the Caribbean.

10. FINANCIAL HEALTH

Encourage Financial Overview and start a savings scheme. (Similar to a Pardner) for black families.  Encourage financial and investment literacy.

11. TECH

Use Technology.  Where possible encourage the use of Technology to grow businesses. Social Media, Websites, Apps. Encourage training in technology for Websites, Apps, AI and Blockchain. Connect with Teachers of Tech. Set up a Tech Learning Event. c/o Dawn Grant and William De Torvy-Ballou

12. BUSINESS MENTORING

Provide a Mentee Matching Service. Provide a list of Mentees and Mentors for Adult Business owners - in Different Sectors. Mentoring can take place in person face to face, virtual meetings, or via telephone,

Tech, Fashion, Art, Craft, Finance, Career Support, Sport & Fitness, Hair, Beauty, Toys and more.

13. TRAVELLING ACES CONFERENCE

Take the ACES Conference to cities across the UK and across the world. c/o Black Economics and Speakers interested in travelling.

14. RAISE FUNDING

Raise Funding to do the above. Raise funding through Product Sales, Events, Services, Donations, Membership, private Investment and VC funding.

15. ACQUIRE  A BUILDING

We cannot as a people always be dependent on others.  We need to seek a building to use as an office/shop/production & meeting space HQ to fulfil the above projects.

16. IMPROVE COMMUNICATION

Communication needs to improve.  Ensure stronger Social Media messaging, and more newsletters should be going out.  A Black Economics WhatsApp Group has been set up.  Move towards more communications with mainstream companies.
